Royal Gorge Museum & History Center

HI All:

I hope you are still planning to visit the Museums in Canon City soon.

We have a variety of things of interest to many folks: Dinosaur Depot caters to the Archeologist/geologist and the Prison Museum is a great place to see the way things were at the Territorial Prison way back in 1880.

The Regional Museum and History Center is at 612 Royal Gorge Boulevard, and a veritable feast for the eyes of anyone interested in history.

Call 719 269 9036 if you are interested in any of their services, such as research for the geneologist, family member search, or addresses within the Fremont County area. Census records, railroad records, Cotter records - its all there.

I am on the Fremont County Heritage Commission now. We toured the Garden park School area in December, and had a great leader in Kurt Sorenson and his wife Peggy. The School had been named to the Colorado historic Register recently, so we are privileged to have a piece of history being recognized, and if we can do some grant work, get it restored.
If you would like to become a member of the Friends of the Museum and History Center, just give us a call, or stop in any day we're open (Wed. thru Sat. 10 to 4). $10.00 for an individual yearly, $15 for a couple and $25 for all the family.

The big event coming up is the On The Road Tour by Colorado Preservation, Inc. on September 25, 26 and 27th. I am helping set up the Greenwood Tour which will be on Saturday morning at 9:30.
There are brochures and registration available from PCI on the web, so if you are interested in three days of looking at Fremont County, please go to there URL.
